President Buhari has challenged the Petroleum Ministry to maximize the potentials and opportunities in the Oil and Gas industries to stimulate the country's economy in spite of the current challenges. The president made the call at the public presentations of Seven Big Wings ( a four year strategy to grow Nigeria oil and gas) "The president declared that his administration has resolves to work with all stake holders to restore peace and safety in the Niger Delta region". According to the president, the plan is for short and medium term strategy in
outgrowing the country's oil and gas industries with key focus on addressing specific challenges. The seven areas of focus are improving security and ensuring environmental safety in the Niger Delta and reviewing the obsolete and introducing new policies. Others include gas revolutions through new infrastructure, upgrading the nation's refineries and increasing local productions as well as ensuring transparency and efficiency.
President Buhari said there was also an urgent need to instill a new culture of transparency and efficiency as streamed line operations in the industry along best practices by the implementation of strategic reforms at every layer of the industry. The president explains that once the country plugs the liturges in the industry in the days of high oil prices, Nigeria can even do more with the little resources that it's getting at the moment. President Buhari therefore called for the support of the media, local and foreigne investors and other critical stake holders as his administration consolidate change in the oil and gas sector of the economy. The minister of gas and petroleum Dr Ibe Kachukwu said the vision of the present administration was to formulate policies to encourage the private sector explore oil in the Chad basin and other virgin oil fields. Dr Kachukwu said the president would meet with stakeholders of the Niger Delta and oil producing areas as part of effort to find lasting peace.
