Global Sea Level Rising Very Fast Due To Gobal Warming

Sea levels are rising several times faster than in the past
2 , 800 years and are accelerating because of man - made
global warming, according to new studies . An
international team of scientists dug into two dozen
locations across the globe to chart gently rising and
falling seas over centuries and millennia . Until the 1880s
and the world’ s industrialization , the fastest rise in sea
levels was about 3 cm to 4cm a century, plus or minus a
bit.
During that time the global sea level really did not get
much higher or lower than 7 . 62 cm above or below the
2 , 000- year average . But in the 20 th century the world’ s
seas rose 14 cm . Since 1993 the rate has soared to 30 cm
and two different studies , published on Monday in the
journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences ,
said that by 2100 the world’ s oceans would rise between
28 and 131cm , depending on how much heat - trapping
gas Earth ’ s industries and vehicles expel .
“ There ’ s no question that the 20 th century is the fastest , ”
said Bob Kopp , Rutgers earth and planetary sciences
professor and the lead author of the study that looked
back at sea levels over the past three millennia . “ It ’ s
because of the temperature increase in the 20 th century,
which has been driven by fossil fuel use . ”
If seas continue to rise as projected, another 45 cm of
sea - level rise will cause lots of problems and expense ,
especially with surge during storms , said study c o- author
Stefan Rahmstorf , of the Potsdam Institute for Climate
Impact Research in Germany .

Man Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison For Stealing Peppersoup And Palm Wine

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday
sentenced a 31-year-old man, Ayodele Joseph, to 18
months imprisonment for house breaking and stealing
pepper soup meat and palm wine worth N2,600.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olayinka Omole, however
gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N15,000 on
the two count charges.
Omole sentenced the convict to six months
imprisonment or N5,000 fine for stealing and one year
imprisonment or option of N10,000 for housebreaking.
The Prosecutor, Corporal Adebiyi Abiodun, had told the
court that the convict broke into the house of Kemisola
Ibitoye and stole pepper soup meat valued at N1,900.
Abiodun said other items stolen by the convict were
palm wine valued at N700 and some black wood hot
drink and Regal gin valued at N2,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections
413(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1
Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Joseph pleaded guilty and begged for mercy, saying, “I
do not have parents, I will not indulge in such act
again”.
But being an orphan is not an excuse for theft, is it?

Wizkid And Linda Ikeji At It Again

Wizkid and Linda Ikeji are at it again as Linda Ikeji is
said to have thrown a sub at him on her blog.
Monday February 22, Nigerian pop star Wizkid,
25,
called popular Nigerian blogger Linda Ikeji, 35, “lonely
and bitter” on his SnapChat account.
Wizkid shared an old picture of Linda Ikeji
 during her
modelling days and captioned the picture “Almost 40,
lonely and bitter! Prayers up for you!”
Wizkid was most likely responding to Linda Ikeji’s sub
yesterday. Linda Ikeji posted an article of American
rapper The Game slamming an Internet troll for calling
him a dead beat dad. In her post Linda Ikeji wrote
“unlike a dead beat father who hasn’t started to cater
for his child.”
Many people believe that line was directed at Wizkid. In
January Linda Ikeji
broke the news that Wizkid had
allegedly fathered a child with a woman known as Binta
Diamond Diallo. A few days after the story Binta
Diamond Diallo spoke to The Shade Room and said
Wizkid is a ‘dead beat’ dad.
On Sunday, February 21, 2016 Wizkid
retweeted an
article titled “Linda Ikeji is suffering from poverty
mentality” on Twitter and said “nice read.”
Wizkid captioned this read as too deep with the emojis,
‘A major symptom of poverty mentality is money and
material fixation. Sometimes, no matter how far away
from poverty one runs, some people still need an open
brain surgery to expunge the poverty mentality.’

NPC Begins Enumeration Demarcation Today (Daily Trust)

The National Population Commission (NPC) will today
commence the second phase of the Enumeration Area
Demarcation (EAD) exercise in 29 states of the country
ahead of the 2017 population and housing census.
The Chairman of the commission, Chief Eze Duruiheoma
who disclosed this in Abuja, revealed that  1,214 staff would
be engaged as demarcating officials in the exercise which
would last till March 14.

He said the decision to deploy only staff of the commission
for the exercise was to ensure commitment of field staff as
well accountability and non-interference. He said that
adequate logistics had been put in place for effective
deployment of personnel and materials for the exercise.
The NPC boss said the commission had already commenced
aggressive sensitization of the populace at the grassroots
in the selected LGAs and interpersonal communication with
community leaders, even as he solicited for accommodation
and security of staff during the exercise.
Describing the exercise as the bedrock on which the entire
census architecture stands, the NPC boss said getting it
right is not just an option, but an absolute necessity in the
quest to deliver to the nation an accurate, reliable and
acceptable head count.

Court Sherif To Seize P Square's Properties After Peter's Apology

Here's really what's going on at P-Square's Omole home
and this is exclusive. It wasn't police officers that stormed
their home this morning, rather, it was Lagos High court
Sheriffs. The court Sheriffs stormed the music duo's home
about 5.30 this morning with a court order to seize property
following a judgement against them.
When the security men at P-Square's home refused them
entry, saying the brothers were not home, they allegedly
forced their way in injuring one security guard. (that's his
picture above) And here's why they came for the brothers...
Many years ago...about 8/9 years ago, there was a show in
Benin that they were supposed to perform in. According to a
source who spoke with LIB, after they were paid, the
brothers arrived Benin for the show only to be told that the
show had been postponed till the next day. P-Square
refused to stay till the next day and returned to Lagos. The
organizer of the show demanded for his money back and
when he didn't get it, took the case to court. He got a court
judgement and promptly moved to Lagos.
The source said the case had been in court all this while
but the brother's weren't really aware of it as no one
represented them. It looks like judgement may have been
passed in absentia, which brought the court Sheriffs to their
home today. They tried to tow a vehicle after showing the
papers brought from the court but no one would allow them
take any car away. The court Sheriffs are still in the house

Peter Of PSQUARE Apologies To His Brothers

In an earlier post we brought to you what led to the fight between the dual and their elder brother. Peter took to his twitter page to apologize to his brothers.
Following a series of tweets where he called for the sack
of his elder brother as their manager, one half of the pop
duo, Psquare, Peter Okoye has apologized for his
outburts against his brothers, Paul and Jude Okoye.
Peter’s apologize which he tendered via his twitter page
came as  his twin brother, Paul Okoye has declared his
support for their elder brother.
He shared a photo of Psquare and Jude Okoye and wrote,
“I am not perfect I make mistakes, and it hurts people.
But when I say sorry I mean it. I am so sorry for my
actions. I sincerely apologize.”
Before Peter tendered his apologize, Paul had shared a
photo collage of a throwback photo, on his instagram
account, declaring his support for Jude. The picture
showed Peter and Paul flanking a seated Jude on both
sides, now with Peter replaced by a photo of their studio
in the collage.
Peter had earlier in the week taken to his twitter account
to call for the sack of  their elder brother, Jude as their
manager, warning the general public about doing any P
Square related business with him.

Pastor Stabbs Wife To Death After He Wrote Out 10 Questions For Her

Detectives from the Edo state Police Command have
launched a manhunt for a certain pastor, Henry
Ojochunu Ekukpe, who was alleged to have stabbed his
wife, Patience, to death in the presence of their six
year-old baby, leaving a note containing ten questions
he allegedly expected his late wife to answer.
The runaway suspect, Vanguard gathered, is said to
pastor one of the branches of Mountain of Victory and
Fire Deliverance Ministry in Benin City.
Henry, who got married to his 29-year-old in 2014, has
been having issues that forced the deceased out of his
house months ago.
However, trouble started last Sunday when the pastor
reportedly invited the deceased for a dialogue
pretending that he wanted her back to the house.
When the deceased came, her husband was said to
have used a hidden knife to stab her in different parts of
her body and escaped from the area.
Police investigations revealed a note containing ten
questions the pastor left for his late wife to give
answers to.
Some of the questions contained in the notes were:

1.“Did you come to marry me because of money or for
who I am?
“In the first place, did you really come out with your
own full mind?
“Who gave you the order to pack your property away
from our home?
“Who is your adviser in this marriage that is polluting
your mind against me?
“Have we ever in life went to beg for food ever since we
got married?
“Has you mother ever brought food for us to eat one
day because of hunger?
“Have I not told you at the beginning that I hate
someone insulting me?
“You always pray that God should help you to eat the
fruit of your labour?
“So no man has the power to take one’s life but today
we are going together.
“So how do you feel now?” the pastor had written in the
note.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, PPRO,
Abiodun Osifo who confirmed the incident, assured that
the police will bring the pastor to book.
Osifo, who described the incident as “tragic and
barbaric”, vowed that the police would ensure the
culprit was arrested.

Unknown Disease Kills Over 20 Children In Lasgos

Residents of Otodo-Gbame Community in Ikate,
Lekki, Lagos State, are battling to save their
children from a vaccine preventable disease which
has claimed the lives of no fewer than 25 children
in the area.
Punch Metro learnt that the yet-to-be-identified
disease, which started in January 2016, has brought
panic to the predominantly Egun community, as
the affected children developed rashes similar to
measles, and usually died two to three days after.
Punch correspondent gathered that some families,
most of whom work as fishermen and fish sellers,
lost two to three children each while the disease
ravaged the area in January and first week of
February.
When Punch Metro visited the area on Monday, it
was learnt that health workers from the Eti-Osa
Local Government Area had visited the community
last Wednesday and had started immunisation for
children.
Punch correspondent learnt that two children,
however, died in the presence of the health
workers while the immunisation was being
administered.
Speaking with Punch Metro , a woman, Anago
Benedict, who lost three of her children to the
disease, and gave their names as Taiye, Kehinde
and Jisine, said apart from the rashes on their
bodies, they also vomited blood before they died.
She said, “My children fell sick in the first week of
February. The disease is ravaging our area, and we
did not have anyone to run to.
“My children were killed by the disease. They were
vomiting blood. I did not know what name to call
the disease.”
Another woman, Stella Paul, who is the mother of
one of the two children that died on Wednesday,
said the girl was ill for only two days.
She said, “Her name was Esther. She was two years
old. She died on Wednesday in the presence of the
health workers. She was sick for only two days. I
have three children. Esther was the youngest.
Emmanuel is the first.”
Another resident, Atuku Daddy, who lost his niece,
Kehinde Petito, urged the government to provide
health care facilities in the community, as they
lacked any government hospital.
He said, “The girl was two years old. She died on
February 8. She was ill for just three days, and she
was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
“In the night, she could not sleep. Some of the
symptoms we saw were swollen private parts and
high temperature. We call it Ina oru. In the
afternoon, she would play, but in the evening, her
body would become hot.
“I work as a fisherman, and I was born in this
community. Nothing of such had happened in our
area before now. Our grandfathers usually told us
that there had not been any epidemic. But since
January, many children had died in our area from
the disease.
“A family lost up to three children to the disease.
That is why we appeal to the state government to
give us a hospital. Since the immunisation started
last Wednesday, the rate of contracting the disease
is getting minimal.”
Kehinde’s grandmother, Bose Petito, who works as
a cleaner in a private school in Lekki Phase 1, said,
“I have taken her twin brother for vaccination.
They also gave him drugs to use. The signs of the
disease are on him too, but they are not serious. It
was sad to lose her, but we are fine now. The
mother has gone to work.”
Punch correspondent also observed the rashes on
Taiye’s legs and stomach during the interview.
A resident, who identified himself only as Jonathan,
said the health workers collected the water and
food samples of the residents to find out the cause
of the disease.
Jonathan added that residents had raised the alarm
since January, but help did not come on time.
He said, “Between January and February 2016, we
had deaths of many children. They would have a
brief illness and they would die.
“So far in February, we have had about 20
children who died. When the health workers came,
they took our water and food samples to the
laboratory for tests, but I do not know what they
found out.
“We raised the alarm when these deaths started,
but no one came to our rescue. Since Wednesday,
people have been turning out for the
immunisation.”
However, the state Ministry of Health said it had
sent epidemiologists to the community to verify the
outbreak.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Mrs. Adeola Salako,
said the blood samples and other body fluids of
children with suspected cases had been collected
for examination.
She said, “An epidemiological investigation, led by
the state epidemiologists from the Ministry of
Health, commenced on Wesdnesday, February 10.
‘The investigation is meant to verify the assertions
and the cause of deaths through laboratory
investigation of water, throat swabs and blood
samples of children with suspected cases and to
proffer solutions.
“It is worthy of note that no further death has
been recorded since then.”

PSQUARE Fight Seriously In Public And Are At The Edge Of Splitting

Their fight is getting more serious as Peter accuses Jude and his twin Paul of doing business behind his back. Peter Okoye is all out for his brothers this time and it's
really getting messy between them...
"I have come to you several times to resolve issues
between us and with some family and friends but what
happen? #WhereYouBelong. On the 4th of Jan dis yr I
came to you and told your friend to excuse us I need to talk
to you and u insisted that you friend must be around.
2013 I told Jude he's no longer needed as our manager, he
agrees only for u (Paul) to come to me that if he is not our
manager then we should split! Where you belong because
you both where doing business behind me ? And I get to
find out?
Teampsquare pls help me ask my twin why he insisted that
everything we own must be shared equally with Jude.
Otherwise Psquare should split...
Teampsquare ask my twin brother why today him and Jude
owns squareville . And if that didn't happen Psquare would
have bin over 4yrs ago.
My bro I will still stand and fight for you because you and I
started this journey b4 Jude came onboard as our
manager. Fans and friends I totally agree with you that we
are grown ass men that we shouldn't be doin this. But you
guys deserve to know the truth .
I setup P-classic records 3 and half yrs ago. Was in the
studio with @cynthiamorgan1 working with her and u told
her to excuse us.
You then said you heard I wanted to sign
her. And then ask what will people be looking at Jude as if
I sign an artiste.
3 day later @cynthiamorgan1 returned my contract and
said Jude said me trying to sign her on a different label is
becoming a problem. But after 2 weeks she signed with
Jude .... My brother think am.
But let's not go deep.... I still stand my ground. He is fired !
Am still on the hashtag #NoBeByForce. Legal or no legal.
We don't owe him.. We don't even have a contract with
him. So it's all good. #NoBeByForce. I choose to be the
good, bad and the ugly of p2.
Say what ever you want to say. Need to save my second
half. Period #NoBeByForce.".....

Cheating is always a problem in family thingz...Peter
feels cheated but I think they can resolve this problem with themselves without splitting.

Mad Man Found With Differenmt ATM Cards And Large Sum Of Money In Lagos

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a middle-
aged man who appeared to be a lunatic in Akure, the state
capital, on Monday with 18 Automated Teller Machine
cards of different banks and some cash in his possession.
The suspect, who was said to be in his 30s, was arrested in
the Ijapo area of the capital city by the residents of the
area.
They later handed him over to policemen in the Ijapo Police
Station, saying they suspected him to be an armed robber
disguising like a mad person.
According to a source, some residents of the area have
been observing him (suspect) roaming around the streets
and suspecting him to be using his appearance to deceive
the people in the area.
On Monday, the source said the suspect was accosted by
the residents, but his explanation was not tenable as he
was reportedly incoherent while responding to the different
questions put to him. He was arrested and handed over to
the police.
The source said an undisclosed sum of money made up of
different denominations was found on him and he could not
explain how and where he got the money from.
The source said, “After carefully looking at the man, we
discovered that he was a normal human being. How could
a mad man be counting a huge sum of money and also has
different ATM cards belonging to different people in his
possession?”
Some valuables, including jewellery and neat clothes were
also said to be inside the bag the suspect was carrying.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the state police
command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the suspect would
undergo some medical tests to ascertain his mental status.
He said, “We don’t want to presume that he is a mad man
yet. There are medical tests he needs to undergo for us to
believe him. We asked for his name, but he spoke
incoherently to show he is insane. We have to do the test.
“If he is found to be a robber as it is being speculated, he
will face the wrath of the law.”

Taxi Driver Beats Passenger To Death So He Can Rob Her

Two undergraduates, James Okoh and Victor Okefie, have
been arrested by the police in Enugu over the murder of a
lady who was returning to the country from the United
States of America.
Okoh is from Amata in Afikpo Local Government Area of
Ebonyi State, while Okefie hails from Ajaokuta in Kogi
State.
Police sources said both were final year students of an
undisclosed state university in the South-East.
It was gathered that the lady, identified as Mrs Stella Uhuo,
was murdered and robbed by the undergraduates, shortly
after her flight landed at the Akanu Ibiam International
Airport, Enugu, on November 14, 2015.
A Punch correspondent gathered that Stella had gone to
the US for a vacation.
It was learnt that, shortly after landing at the airport, she
contacted Okoh, who reportedly combines his studies with
a cab business, to convey her to Abakiliki, where she was
to deliver some items she brought for some people from
the US.
It was also gathered that Okoh was known to Stella and
had provided cab services for her on several occasions in
the past.
Following the call from Stella, Okoh arrived at the airport
with his Volvo car with Lagos registration number EKY 855
CY in company with Okefie.
Some of Stella’s family members were also said to have
come to receive her at the airport. It was learnt that her
personal belongings were taken away to her house in the
car brought by her family members, before she left in
Okoh’s car with the items she intended to deliver in
Abakiliki.
However, unknown to Stella, Okoh and Okefie had other
plans.
On the way to Abakiliki, the duo reportedly diverted the car
off the busy Enugu-Abakiliki expressway to a lonely road,
where they beat Stella to death, before making away with
the items she wanted to deliver in the Ebonyi State capital.
Punch correspondent gathered that the items included
dollars, clothes and electronic gadgets.
Having murdered their passenger, Okoh and Okefie
reportedly dumped her body at dustbin located along the
Enugu-Abakiliki expressway.
Spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere
Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said Okoh and
Okefie had been at large since the incident, even as the
police commenced investigations into the crime after
Stella’s body was discovered.
Amaraizu said the investigations led to the recent arrest of
the two undergraduates.
According to him, Okoh was arrested on January 29, 2016,
at his hostel in Ebonyi State, while Okefie was trailed to his
parents’ house at Ajaokuta, in Kogi State, where he was
nabbed on January 31, 2016.
The police spokesman disclosed that Okoh and Okefie
confessed that it was not their intention to kill Stella, as
she died while resisting their attempt to make away with
the items in her possession.
However, Amaraizu said the suspects were to appear in
court soon.
Stella’s body, which was recovered from the dustbin where
it was dumped, has been deposited in a mortuary.

This Is How I Escaped Being Used For Money Rituals

I was alone at home that afternoon when Michelle
ran into our room in the campus with a big smile
on her face. I almost thought she had won a
lottery. Out of the excitement and despite the
hunger, I asked, ‘ Babe you win lottery and you
don jam mugu? ’
She was still thanking God for deciding to turn her
life around after all these years of suffering and
penniless lifestyle? I was amazed as I stared at her
in shock. I have never seen Michelle in that excited
mood since we became roommates. She called me
by the name we usually addressed ourselves with.
My rommie, guess what happen on my way back
from school. I replied that I am poor guesser . Let
me break the bombshell to you babe. I am now a
very rich girl. She announced. I burst out with a
loud laugh and dismissed her excitement with a
wave of the hand.
She insisted that she was not dreaming. I told her
to go straight to the point before I lose my
patience. She begin to narrate how she met this
very rich Chief who gave her a ride back home
where she stood under the scorching sun.
According to her, the Chief happens to be a
multimillionaire with businesses all over the
country and abroad. She she said the chief had
invited her to have dinner with her at a hotel
somewhere in town. She said the chief said she
could bring her friend along with her. I was
becoming excited too at the thought of making
some cool cash from the mugu chief.
She pleaded with me to accompany her to see the
chief, After much persuasion, I gave in to her
request and accompanied her that night. As at
7:45pm, the Chief’s driver was already waiting
outside the campus with the latest Range Rover
Sports. We got to coded hotel. The chief was
already waiting for us. He had also placed a
reservation for us.
We had a very nice time with the chief. The man
had plenty of cash to throw around. The man was
simply swimming in money. He was also so
friendly and very generous. While going home that
night, he gave us a brand new notes totaling N200,
000 naira each. Imagine making 200k one night. It
was a jackpot. Soon I was becoming jealous of my
friend.
I was asking myself why I wasn’t th one in her
position. A week later, Chief bought a Mercedes
jeep for Michelle and actually gave her the keys to
a flat in Lekki Peninsula. Being her closest friend
and roomie, she begged me to move in with her
which I quickly agreed without much conviction.
We started living large. Chief was just so kind and
generous to us. We had everything at our beck and
call. Just like a whirlwind, we became the
happening babes on campus and within the Lekki
axis.
I got so carried away that I was enjoying the
money without knowing where it was coming
from. Chief even took my friend to Paris for
shopping. Deep down I was so sad and filled with
jealousy for her. She noticed I didn’t take the news
kindly to the news. But she promised to buy me
stuff from Paris.
A few days later, she left with Chief. That was the
last time I set my eyes on Michelle. Her journey
was supposed to last for two weeks but a month
later, I did not hear from her. I became scared
because I was left alone in the house. She never
communicated with me right from the first day she
left the house.
I came home from school one evening and met
Chief at home, out of excitement I rushed into
Michelle’s room thinking that she has finally
returned but to my utmost astonishment, Michelle
was nowhere to be found.
I rushed out immediately to ask Chief, he explained
that she will come back later that her trip was a
bit extended and immediately changed his
countenance towards me by telling me that he
actually made a mistake by going out with my
friend earlier on.
He promised me heaven and earth if only I could
date him secretly without Michelle’s knowledge. I
told him that I wouldn’t be able to stab my friend
behind her back, that she has been very good to
me. He asked the driver to bring his briefcase, he
brought out N500, 000, kept it on the table and
asked me to think about his request and left.
I was tempted to give in to what Chief had said but
I kept worrying about Michelle. One night I
became curious and decide to check one of the
rooms in the flat that was always kept open. There
was a wardrobe inside the room.
Still out of curiosity, I forced the wardrobe open
and I shouted. There was my friend sitting on a
stool. Her eyes fixed in a daze with a pot on her
head.
Her body seem glued to the stool. Was she dead?
She was not moving.I shout Jesus and ran out of
the house. How could chief have killed my friend
in the same house without my knowledge?
Some weeks after, Michell was reported missing. I
assisted the police to locate the house. On getting
there, the address had changed. The new occupants
said there was never a chief there and threatened
the police for embarrassing them. But I was sure of
what I saw. What had happened.
Given the position I met my friend, I am very
convinced that Chief used her for rituals. A search
of the house did not produce anything.I am still in
shock.
That is why I have become a born again Christian
in memory of my friend.
I will never do runs again.

Now after reading this and you become skeptical worrying if it's the truth or not. Maybe you should just stop whatever your doing that does not put your mind at rest and focus on making your life better through hard work.

conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or
headache. These symptoms normally last for 2-7
days.
There is no specific treatment or vaccine currently
available.
The best form of prevention is protection against
mosquito bites.
The virus is known to circulate in Africa, the
Americas, Asia and the Pacific.
Introduction
Zika virus is an emerging mosquito-borne virus that
was first identified in Uganda in 1947 in rhesus
monkeys through a monitoring network of sylvatic
yellow fever. It was subsequently identified in humans
in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania.
Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in
Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.
Genre: Flavivirus
Vector: Aedes mosquitoes (which usually bite during
the morning and late afternoon/evening hours)
Reservoir: Unknown
Signs and Symptoms
The incubation period (the time from exposure to
symptoms) of Zika virus disease is not clear, but is
likely to be a few days. The symptoms are similar to
other arbovirus infections such as dengue, and include
fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain,
malaise, and headache. These symptoms are usually
mild and last for 2-7 days.
Potential complications of Zika virus disease
During large outbreaks in French Polynesia and Brazil
in 2013 and 2015 respectively, national health
authorities reported potential neurological and auto-
immune complications of Zika virus disease. Recently
in Brazil, local health authorities have observed an
increase in Guillain-Barré syndrome which coincided
with Zika virus infections in the general public, as well
as an increase in babies born with microcephaly in
northeast Brazil. Agencies investigating the Zika
outbreaks are finding an increasing body of evidence
about the link between Zika virus and microcephaly.
However, more investigation is needed to better
understand the relationship between microcephaly in
babies and the Zika virus. Other potential causes are
also being investigated.
Transmission
Zika virus is transmitted to people through the bite of an
infected mosquito from the Aedes genus, mainly Aedes
aegypti in tropical regions. This is the same mosquito
that transmits dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.
Zika virus disease outbreaks were reported for the first
time from the Pacific in 2007 and 2013 (Yap and French
Polynesia, respectively), and in 2015 from the Americas
(Brazil and Colombia) and Africa (Cape Verde). In
addition, more than 13 countries in the Americas have
reported sporadic Zika virus infections indicating rapid
geographic expansion of Zika virus.
Diagnosis
Infection with Zika virus may be suspected based on
symptoms and recent history (e.g. residence or travel to
an area where Zika virus is known to be present). Zika
virus diagnosis can only be confirmed by laboratory
testing for the presence of Zika virus RNA in the blood
or other body fluids, such as urine or saliva.
Prevention
Mosquitoes and their breeding sites pose a significant
risk factor for Zika virus infection. Prevention and
control relies on reducing mosquitoes through source
reduction (removal and modification of breeding sites)
and reducing contact between mosquitoes and people.
This can be done by using insect repellent; wearing
clothes (preferably light-coloured) that cover as much
of the body as possible; using physical barriers such as
screens, closed doors and windows; and sleeping under
mosquito nets. It is also important to empty, clean or
cover containers that can hold water such as buckets,
flower pots or tyres, so that places where mosquitoes
can breed are removed.
Special attention and help should be given to those who
may not be able to protect themselves adequately, such
as young children, the sick or elderly.
During outbreaks, health authorities may advise that
spraying of insecticides be carried out. Insecticides
recommended by the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme
may also be used as larvicides to treat relatively large
water containers.
Travellers should take the basic precautions described
above to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
Treatment
Zika virus disease is usually relatively mild and
requires no specific treatment. People sick with Zika
virus should get plenty of rest, drink enough fluids, and
treat pain and fever with common medicines. If
symptoms worsen, they should seek medical care and
advice. There is currently no vaccine available.
WHO response
WHO is supporting countries to control Zika virus
disease through:
Define and prioritize research into Zika virus disease
by convening experts and partners.
Enhance surveillance of Zika virus and potential
complications.
Strengthen capacity in risk communication to help
countries meet their commitments under the
International Health Regulations.
Provide training on clinical management, diagnosis
and vector control including through a number of
WHO Collaborating Centres.
Strengthen the capacity of laboratories to detect the
virus.
Support health authorities to implement vector
control strategies aimed at reducing Aedes mosquito
populations such as providing larvicide to treat
standing water sites that cannot be treated in other
ways, such as cleaning, emptying, and covering
them.
Prepare recommendations for clinical care and
follow-up of people with Zika virus, in collaboration
with experts and other health agencies.

Corp Member Stabbed In The Eye By Her Hisband

A 30-year-old corps member and housewife, Funmilayo
(real names withheld) has been battered by her own
husband, identified as Bade, who also allegedly poked his
finger into her eye during a disagreement at their home in
the Surulere area of Lagos.
Mr Bade was also said to have stabbed her in the face and
rained blows into her head and face...
Funmilayo was rushed to a health centre before being
taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
Policemen from the Surulere division were said to have
arrested and detained Mr Bade, after which he was
released on bail.
According to Punch, the drama happened last Monday at
the couple’s residence in Kilo area of Surulere. The wife,
who is an Insurance graduate, said she had followed her
husband to his parent’s house on the day, and they had
returned around 8pm.
She said, “Immediately we got home, he said he wanted to
go for a meeting somewhere and I told him to return as
early as possible before they shut the street gate at 10pm.
“When it was 11pm, I called him, he didn’t pick his calls.
He also did not respond to a WhatsApp message I sent
around that time. He later picked his call and I warned him
that if he returned too late I would not rise up from bed to
open the gate for him.
“Around 1am, I called his telephone line again and I heard
a noise at the background. I overheard a lady talking . I told
him I was going for my NYSC Community Development
Service early in the morning, but he ignored me.”
Funmilayo, who already had two children for Bade, said
she returned to bed, but her husband did not return until it
was 2am.
“At about 2am, he called me on the telephone and said I
should come and open the gate, but I ignored him. When I
eventually went downstairs to open the gate, somebody
else had done it.
“He abused my mother and I cautioned him, but he said it
was my day of reckoning and my cup of iniquity was full. I
was in my night gown that time.
“He picked up his belt and started beating me. As I tried to
run away from him, I fell down . During the struggle, a
mirror fell on the floor and he stabbed me with a splinter.
He sat on me. I screamed in pain and shouted for help, but
nobody came to my rescue.
“He poked a finger into my eye and gave me several blows
in the face,” she said.
Funmilayo explained that she managed to bite Bade’s leg,
adding that it was then he let go of her. She said an in-law
rushed her to a medical facility in the area before she was
later taken to LASUTH for treatment.

The couple are now separated pending when the matter
would be resolved.
When contacted, Bade denied attacking his wife, adding
that she was the first to assault him.
“All she said was a lie. It was my hand that I used to beat
her and she was the one that used a plank to hit me in the
back and even stabbed me with the broken mirror. I have a
deep cut in my back and in the front. I slapped her. She got
a swollen face because she is plump,” he said.
Lagos Police PRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police were
preparing to take Mr Bade to court when his wife came to
withdraw the case by herself.
All these husband and wife who engage in acts of domestic
violence against each other should seek for help to avoid
more grievous issues like taking someone's life. Violence
from either spouse is bad!

Accident At The Lagos-Ibadan Road That Claimed Over 25 Lives On Sunday

The Accident That Happened
Yesterday Sunday January 7th 2016 , That Claimed
the Life of 17 – 30 people , along Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway.
17-30 people were killed in an automobile crash on
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Federal Road Safety
Commission, FRSC, said on Sunday.
Yusuf Salami, the Oyo State Sector Commander of
the commission, told the News Agency of Nigeria
that 79 persons were injured in the crash.
Mr. Salami said that the accident, which involved
an articulated vehicle and a Peugeot J5 bus,
occurred at Sepo area of the highway.

“A Peugeot J5 with number plate XS 626 LSV and a
DAF articulated vehicle with number plate AA 902
MML, crashed as both drivers were struggling for
the right of the way.
“They were both going to Lagos when the accident
happened at about 9.30 a.m. (on Sunday),
’’ he said.
“There were 96 people involved with 17 confirmed
dead; it is obvious that both drivers were over
speeding and suddenly lost control of the vehicles.
“The Peugeot bus was loaded with passengers and
goods but the casualty figure rose because the
other vehicle was travelling to Lagos with huge
number of illegal passengers,’’ he said.

Mr. Salami said the accident occurred due to
impatience, over speeding and struggle for the
right of way by both vehicles, which were
traveling from Ibadan to Lagos.

Mr. Salami said that the corpses had been
deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue in
Ibadan, while the injured were taken to the
University College Hospital, Ibadan Central Hospital
and Kejide Hospital.

SAD! Woman Stabs Her Husband Leaving Him To Die In The Pool Of His Blood

This sad story of how a woman killed her husband just got me
worried, really worried. Here is the full story
38yrs old Oye-Lowo Ayediran Ajanaku was brutally
stabbed to death early on Tuesday morning by his wife,
Yewande Ayediran (nee Fatoki) at their home in Akobo
estate, Ibadan after a domestic dispute.
According to reports, Yewande, a lawyer and a staff of
Directorate of Public Prosecution at the Ministry of Justice,
Ibadan, is also the daughter of one Honorable Fatoki and
had been married to Ayediran for three years without a
child . On Monday night, she heard her husband had a son
outside wedlock .
When the dispute between the couples started that
night, Yewande had earlier stabbed Ayediran on his
shoulder; the landlord had interfered and had settled the
dispute and Ayediran had been taken to the hospital where
his wound was stitched. Thereafter, he went home to
sleep.
However, at the early hours of Tuesday morning while he
was still sleeping due to the effect of the drugs he had
taken, his wife again reportedly slaughtered him and locked
the door refusing to call for help and ignoring his weak
plea for help. After a while, reports say his aggrieved wife
called on the Landlady who upon response saw him in the
pool of his own blood. He died few minutes later.
Ayediran’s corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.
Yewande is presently detained at the state CID Iyaganku,
Ibadan.

She was taken too the house where she had
allegedly killed her husband on Thursday afternoon by the
police for on-sight investigation:
Sources say her family are trying to use their influence to
suppress the case. Hmmm...God help us!

Hilarious! In Calabar, Teacher Flogs parent For Her Child's Lateness To School

I had to go on the guy’s page to be sure he is
not a comedian and alas he isn’t one. A lot of people where
surprised such a thing could happen, especially in a
PRIVATE SCHOOL where your own money is being used to
run the school. Some even argued with him that it can
never be possible and he replied most of them saying it
happened yesterday morning when he dropped off a female
neighbour and her child at school when her car won’t start.
A very furious woman who commented on the post said,
she wouldn’t blame the school but the parents who allow
teachers flog them because of a mistake on their part
saying that is why Nigeria has not grown because we never
know our rights.
Despite Reginald swearing it happened and said it was just
a touch of cane on their palms and not like proper flogging,
I still find it difficult to believe. What about you?
