Woman Sets Daughter Ablaze And Calls It Honour Killing

A Pakistani mother has been arrested on suspicion of
burning her 16-year-old daughter alive for marrying
without family consent in the latest so-called “honour
killing” to shock the country.
Zeenat Rafiq , 17-year-old Pakistani lady ran away
from her family and got married against the will of her
family to a young man, Hassaid Khan . Zeenat
was tricked into returning home by her mother with the
promise of organising for them a proper wedding
ceremony.
The unsuspecting girl was doused with petrol and set
on fire by her mother, Perveen, in a neighbourhood of
Lahore.
The mother reportedly made no attempt to hide her
crime, shouting to neighbours that she had killed her
daughter for supposedly dishonouring her family.
Zeenat ran away with and married Hassan last week,
angering her Punjabi family who were furious that she
had married an ethnic Pashtun without permission.
In a television interview with Geo News, Khan said,
“After living with me for four days following our
marriage, her family contacted us and promised they
would throw us a proper wedding party after eight
days”.
“Zeenat was unwilling to go back to her home and told
me that she would be killed by her family, but later
agreed when one of her uncles guaranteed her safety”.
“After two days, she called me and said that her family
had gone back on their word and asked me to come to
get her, but I told her to wait for the promised eight
days. Then she was killed.”
Lahore police arrested Zeenat’s mother and said they
were looking for her brother, who had recently flown in
from Dubai.
Perveen’s younger sister Naseem told AFP: “After
killing her daughter,
Perveen went out on the street,
took off her shawl and started beating herself on her
chest, shouting: ‘People! I have killed my daughter for
misbehaving and giving our family a bad name.'”
“My sister declared a long time ago she would not
allow her daughter to marry a Pashtun,” she said.
The case has attracted the interest of Shahbaz Sharif,
the chief minister of Punjab. In February Sharif’s
brother, the prime minister Nawaz Sharif, pledged to
close a loophole under Islamic law that allows many
perpetrators of so-called “honour” killings to go free.
Under current laws family members are allowed to
forgive the killer, forcing prosecutors to drop even the
most watertight case.
It often leads to killers walking free in situations where
entire families agree that a daughter has brought
shame on them.

NARD: We Will Begin A nationwide Strike Tomorrow

According to President of the Association, National Association of Resident
Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) Muhammad Askira, he said that they will be
going on a nationwide strike starting from Thursday
June 9th.
According to him, they are taking the painful decision
of embarking on the strike action following the failure of
the federal government to meet its demands of better
working condition and better remuneration.

He added that the decision to go on strike was taken at
the associations ordinary general meeting in Jos .
He
Made
the announcement on Tuesday, June 7th.

“Sixteen out of 58 federal tertiary
institutions or centres were
exempted from the initial centre
based strike for the commitment of
the chief medical director of the
hospitals to implement the federal
government’s directives. If by
midnight on Sunday, June 19, our
demands are not met, all the
members of the association,
including those exempted, would join
the indefinite nationwide strike. Due
to the failure of the government to
address the demands of NARD, it
has declared a total and indefinite
strike. NARD has to take this painful
decision in order to highlight the
plight of our hardworking members
who have had to endure a long
period of deprivation and
disenfranchisement.”he said

The Indian Government Should Ban Nigerians From Coming To Our Country

According to Times of India, A former Minister in India, Ravi Naik, has asked the
Indian Central government to “ban” Nigerians from
entering India, saying his country does not need
Nigerian tourists.
 Naik stated this while
speaking to some reporters recently
“Nigerians come here and do ‘dadagiri’ in Delhi,
Bengaluru and the entire country. We should move
Nigerians out of here… Have they come here to study?
Are they really studying? Are they really going to
college, schools? This has to be probed. It is very
important,” he said We do not want
Nigerian tourists. “They create problems everywhere…The Central government should ban
Nigerians.

Referring to Nigerians as “Negroes”,
Naik who is also a
senior Congress leader, told the reporters that
Nigerians have been causing “problems” in Goa, a
western state in India as well other places.

Breaking News: Keshi's Death Is Umtimely

Former Nigerian football team Captain and coach,
Stephen Keshi, is dead.
His family announced that he died of cardiac
arrest early hours of today, Wednesday June 8.
Stephen OkechukwuKeshi CON was 54 year old at the
time of his death. This is contained in a statement by
the family, signed by Emmanuel Ado.
“With thanksgiving to God, the Ogbuenyi Fredrick Keshi
family of Illah in Oshimili North Local Government Area
of Delta State, announces the death of Mr. Stephen
Okechukwu Chinedu Keshi,” Mr. Ado said in the
statement.
He continued “Our son, brother, father, father-in-law,
brother-in-law, has gone to be with his wife of 35
years (Nkem ), Mrs. Kate Keshi, who passed on,on 9th
December 2015.
“Since her death, Keshi has been in mourning. He came
back to Nigeria to be with her. He had planned to fly
back today Wednesday, before he suffered a cardiac
arrest. He has found rest.”
“He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of
illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of
his wife,” a friend in Benin said.
He is survived by four children and his mother.
Keshi, the only Nigerian coach to have won the Africa
Cup of Nations, achieved that feat in 2013 by becoming
the only second person to win the trophy both as a
player and a coach.
The other person to have achieved the feat is Egypt’s
Mahmoud El-Gohary.
Keshi, a product of St. Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Lagos,
started his playing career at a very young age at ACB
Football Club, and later played for New Nigeria Bank,
Stade d’Abidjan, Africa Sports, Lokeren, Anderlecht, RC
Strasbourg, and a host of other clubs.

well as Mali.
Keshi, nicknamed the “Big Boss” for his leadership
skills, is the fifth member of the all-conquering 1994
team to die, following Uche Okafor, Thompson Oliha,
Rashidi Yekini and Wilfred Agbonavbare.
Though deeply mourning the shock exit, Mr. Emmanuel
Ado said the family remained grateful to God for the life
spent by the Big Boss.

Scientist: We Can Now Grow Human Organs In Pigs

Scientists have successfully combined human stem
cells and pig DNA – with the aim of growing a human
organ inside a pig.
But critics say the development of such hybrids is
‘offensive to human dignity’.
The ‘chimera’ embryos have been implanted in living
sows and allowed to grow for 28 days before being
tested and destroyed.
A team from the University of California has created a
“genetic niche” in the pigs’ DNA which will allow them
to inject human stem cells into the pig embryos.
The researchers hope the resulting foetus will grow a
pancreas made almost entirely of human cells -
although in the current trials the pregnancies will be
terminated after 28 days.
Reproductive biologist Professor Pablo Ross, who is
leading the research, said: “Our hope is that this pig
embryo will develop normally but the pancreas will be
made almost exclusively out of human cells and could
be compatible with a patient for transplantation.
“We think there is a very low potential for a human
brain to grow.”
Pigs are thought to be an ideal biological incubator for
growing human organs, and could potentially be used
to create not just a pancreas, but hearts, livers, kidneys
lungs and corneas.
He said transplanting such organs to human patients in
need of transplants could be done without the need for
immunosuppressive drugs which can carry significant
side-effects.
The work is controversial and last year the main US
medical research agency imposed a funding limit
because of concerns that the human cells might
migrate to developing the foetal pig’s brain, making the
animal more human.
Britain is currently suffering an acute organ donor
shortage , mainly due to medical advances which are
saving more lives following accidents, and 429 people
died in 2014 waiting for a transplant.
Experts believe the so-called “chimera” technique
being developed in California is likely to be approved by
the Home Office.
But animal rights campaigners are questioning the use
of animals to grow human organs.
Peter Stevenson, from Compassion in World Farming,
said: “I’m nervous about opening up a new source of
animal suffering. Let’s first get many more people to
donate organs.”
